"The Darkest Hour: Stories and Interviews from Death Row" by Nanon M. Williams emerged from a deep and dark despair in a place where the thought of suicide often holds more appeal than the thought of living. The hopeless ones live below the line but not Nanon Williams. Williams reached high beyond despair with outstretched hands and on tiptoes. He took a firm grip on the branch of hope and hoisted himself up above the line. While on Texas Death Row, Nanon was an inspirational voice. This work, now in its second edition, has expanded his inspirational influence beyond prison walls to men and women everywhere. His voice reaches others who measure their lives by an hourglass and do not see enough sand remaining to do anything of importance with their lives. We all learn from Nanon Williams that we can race against time and win.

An absolute must read!!
By KristinH
I am fortunate enough to have corresponded with Nanon Williams - an inspiration in every sense of the word. The Darkest Hour is gripping and impossible to forget; the interviews from the men brave enough to tell their stories will never be far from your mind. Filled with raw emotion, Nanon is able to help us see these individuals as human beings as opposed to criminals. Nanon's personal story will bring you to tears; have a box of tissues ready.
Be on the lookout for the The Darkest Hour: Shedding Light on the Impact of Isolation and Death Row in Texas Prisons by Dr. Betty Gilmore and Nanon M. Williams This book presents an in depth view of the Texas prison system with a specific focus on Death Row and "solitary confinement," also known as administrative segregation, and sheds light on the devastating impact of extreme isolation experienced by thousands of incarcerated individuals in Texas prisons -- many of whom will be integrated back into society.

Powerful book!
By Brenda
This was an excellent book and it really puts things in a different perspective. It makes you question what the meaning of justice really is and how inhumane it can be. Perhaps, some may believe that they deserved it, but imagine what a different world would be if we went the difficult route in creating a consistent rehabilitation program. This is truly powerful to hear the stories of men that by many are labeled as monsters but here you can truly see that they are only human.

good book
By Pat Hartwell
This book dwells into the psyche of the men who killed. No one is born bad; circumstances make people made bad decisions.
