About the Author
Russ McDonald is Professor of English Literature at Goldsmiths College, University of London. Having taught at five American universities, he is the winner of multiple awards for distinguished teaching, including North Carolina Professor of the Year. For a decade he helped to direct the NEH-sponsored Teaching Shakespeare Institute for secondary teachers at the Folger Library, and his pedagogical commitment led to his publishing the widely-adopted Bedford Companion to Shakespeare. A specialist in Shakespeare’s poetic language, he has held fellowships from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Folger Shakespeare Library, and the Mellon Foundation. His scholarly works include Shakespeare’s Late Style, Shakespeare and the Arts of Language, and other books and articles on Shakespeare and early modern writing and culture. In 2010-11 he served as President of the Shakespeare Association of America. He also writes regularly for Opera magazine.

Most Beautiful of the Smith-Astrop decks

This is an outstanding oracle in its presentation of lunar phases and mansions. The interpretations of the mansions are cross cultural with an emphasis on the Picatrix, which leads to some skipping around -- which is not a problem. It adds breadth and interest.

If the whole set isn't available, it's worth buying the book in English and looking for the cards in another language. This set was printed in Italian, German and French and can be found by the diligent collector at a fairly reasonable price.

As noted by another reviewer, there are problems with the lunation tables. Those in the back of the book are almost over (ending in 2015). Still it is a bad idea to use them at all. In 2012, this year, the gibbous and disseminating moons are reversed, and sometimes duplicated. The gibbous moon never follows the full and the disseminating never precedes it. There are other problems with the waning and crescent moon phases. This is a 5 star oracle without that fairly major fault. It is a testament to the high quality of the content and artwork given the errors which seriously undermine the use of the oracle as intended.

Since the tables must be adjusted for use in any time zone other than GMT, if one isn't an astrologer it is best to ignore the tables in the back completely and get an astrological almanac or calendar with all 8 phases (not 4).

The cards can still be adapted to other uses for cartomancy and reflection like any other oracle, but the model is unique. Lunar/astrological timing is definitely relevant to biology, tides, and weather -- as well as more subtle cycles.

It's a shame their oracles are all out of print at this time, as they are outstanding for artwork, depth, and intelligence.* Some publisher should bring all of them back into print for the market that can appreciate them. It's worth paying extra to find this one, or others. I would pay a little extra if any of their works were to be reprinted in good quality, as cards are less profitable than books and suffer the consequences. I hope someone publishes their Magical/Occult Tarot visible only on their Elemental Tarot website. [....]

I have seen two copies of The Moon Oracle in English. One is better printed than the other, with some variation in the colors of the card backs. It doesn't harm the deck as one to work with, but relevant to those who collect for aesthetic reasons.

Smith did the artwork for this set and the Major Arcana are excellent for their rich color, innovative take on traditional imagery, and her unmistakeable aesthetic. The book lacks the depth of the Smith-Astrop collaborations, and the minors are simple pips -- pixellated at that. It was once easily found quite cheap and the Majors are worth it if you appreciate Caroline Smith's artwork and would use the Majors (Courts and Aces) for reading or meditation or Wirth-style. Easiest to find in the UK.

Although I'm usually skeptical about "new" and non-traditional Tarot/divination decks, I bought this one because the artwork is absolutely gorgeous. When I read the book & tried the deck, I was pleasantly surprised. 90% of the symbolism and representations are accurate, which is important is you plan to actually use the deck. A good set overall, but cards are best used doing readings for women.

A MUST FOR BUDDING ARCHITECTS

I have given architectural students copies of the Honeywood trilogy over many years.The books are classics and explain some difficulties a young architect can encounter in his quest for excellence under difficult circumstances.

Most of the first book is centered upon letters to and from the architect's file,which is amusing to read but not so amusing for the architect or his client.

Highly recommended.

Homebuilding and Human Nature

Building a home, or anything else for that matter, requires you to do business with a wide range of people, bankers, landowners, officials, builders, tradesmen and even architects. An understanding of how to deal with varied human natures is therefore valuable, and will make the project go more smoothly.
Such understanding is best acquired in the University of Life, as there are very few good textbooks. However, there is one book that was specifically written to illuminate the interpersonal difficulties that arise when building a home. Although "The Honeywood File" was first published in 1929 and describes the construction of a country mansion for Sir Leslie Brash in the English county of Kent it deals primarily with human nature, and human nature does not change. Nor do many of the practical mishaps and changes of mind that can arise when building a home. My copy is dated 1972, but confirmation of the timelessness and universal relevance of this book is provided by its recent republication in the USA.
"The Honeywood File" is in the form of an amusing exchange of letters between Sir Leslie, his architect James Spinlove and a range of more or less honest major and minor characters. After reading it you may decide that the best way to approach your project is to appoint an architect, but even if you don't you will still be better equipped to deal with the vagaries of human nature.

"The Honeywood File" is composed in a series of letters between the architect and Sir Brash, a man interested in constructing his dream mansion in the county of Kent. It is amusing, full of English humor and wit and easily transports the reader back to days of genteel manners and cordial letter-writing. A definite keeper, and a book well worth reading!

This is a strange novel I have some problem to identify: I don't understand if the chaos is volutary of it is the fervid mind of the author that needs to settle down.

Gabriel is an abused child. His father is a cop so he doesn't think he could have an help to resolve his problems. When he is 18 years old, after the last beating, he thinks to killing himself but a gentle neighboor convinces him to fly away.

He goes to New York, thinking to became a yaoi writer: he is gay and he loves to read yaoi novels, he loves the romance he finds in it cause he has no experience by himself. When he arrives in the city everything seems too simple: the taxi driver from the station finds him a suitable apartment, the first day he finds a good job and he has some money. But then everything crash down: he is suspected to be involved in a children trade and Alejandro Cardoza, the detective in hold of the case, is sure of his guilty. But he is also very attracted by this young man and seems helpless to stay far from him. Everytime he can he beds the boy and the soon after he try to find some clue of his guilty.

Gabriel is a naive character. He seems ignorant of everything happens around him, he is convinced that all depensd on his fly from home. He is not able to lie, everytime he tries soon after he bursts in tears. Alejandro most of the time seems to be drive by his desires and not by his brain, but maybe he needs to listen to his desires, cause if he listens to his brain he only come out with unbelievable plot with Gabriel as villain.

The supporting characters are intriguing: don't miss the old armenian or the italian landlady.

The sex scenes between the two are very yaoi style, with Gabriel in the role of the shrinking violet and Alejandro in that of the dark lover: one of the main reason I bought this novel is the gourgeous cover by Eiris Key, that give you a perfect idea.

Interesting Yaoi Novel

I had my doubts at first, but I am a sucker for a good cover. I was drawn in immediately by the tension in the first scene. There was a pretty graphic scene of abuse, but it was written in such a way as to draw you into the character of Gabriel, the uke who really is inexperienced. Although it sometimes bothers me to see the standard seme and uke, in this case, they really worked. I loved the colorful extra characters, especially because they were very believable. The plot moved rapidly and in unexpected ways so that I was forced to read the entire novel in one sitting. It was worth it. The sex was great. I hate yaoi books written for young adults, because I always expect more! I look forward to seeing more from this author.

At first I noticed the cover of Calor del Amor. I thought it was cartoon so I decided to buy it then sudden it was novel instead of cartoon. When I buy it. The cover is not same as front picture on Kindle fire because I noticed the front is "Starlight Desire: Book 3 Startlight Series". I was puzzled and confused because it is not same as front cover of "Calor del Amor". But I decided to read it anyway.

Gabriel is abused and escaped from his mean father who is cop. He wants to move out from his father and move on with Gabriel's life in New York. He gets apartment, job and new friends. Gabriel loves Yaoi manga and wants to becomes Yaoi writer.

Alejandro is New York Detective. He wants to solve the problems withe girls with pregancy. Alejandro meets Gabriel and suspect Gabriel involved with black market with baby from girls and end up Alejandro was wrong about Gabriel. Will Gabriel forgive Alejandro? Are Gabriel and Alejandro fall in love each other?

I will keep read K.B Forrest's book in the future.
