good book for beginners

I recommend this book for anyone who's thinking about buying their first home. Actually, these types of books should be mandatory readings in high school and college for what it's worth.

I've read a few of these books and they're all pretty easy reads. B/c it's for "dummies", everything is explained in simple terms. I will say though that the mortage for dummies series, well the material is often repepitive so I don't think it's critical to buy a bunch of these books. But if there is one book to start off with, it's this one.

The author goes into budgeting, what to look for in a good realtor, how the entire home buying process works, who's on your team and what their job is (realtor, escrow officer, loan officer etc), what a good inspection report should look like etc etc.

Like all "dummies" books, there are distinct icons representing things to look out for when reading. Overall, it's an easy read and very informative.

This book was wonderful to read even though it is geared toward the person buying a mortgage, and I am a loan officer, that sells the mortgage. It had numerous terms spelled out so they could be easily understood. It marked off warning signs of things to stay away from. I feel this book will be in my desk for use constantly.

I didn't realize that I was creating the negative outcomes I was experiencing through my own expectations and inability to say no. I wanted to make everyone happy and the opposite happened instead. I really recommend this book if you think you are a people pleaser or constantly find yourself going "above and beyond" for others but feel that they never come through for you.

As if the author had read my mind

As I look back over the years my last two relationships ended the same way, I stayed behind blaming myself with what
"ifs" and asking myself what had I missed to provide them with? The sad reality was that I had spend years pleasing them both with everything they wanted, I had to be nice to them because I wanted them to stay. This book is a must to read for people like myself who have spent their lifetime pleasing others because ........... just because....it is time to realize that we can not buy love, persuade others to stay because of our acts of kindness.

Really the best book ever- gave me lots of insight about myself and has a very helpful 21 day plan :) highly recommended for those that avoid conflicts because your scared of repercussions or making someone angry. Really helps you understand how being a people pleaser actually hurts you and your relationships with people

John P. Doran is a technical game designer who has been creating games for over 10 years. He has worked on an assortment of games in teams consisting of just himself to over 70 people in student, mod, and professional projects in different roles, from game designer to lead UI programmer. He previously worked at LucasArts on Star Wars: 1313 as a game designer. He later graduated from DigiPen Institute of Technology in Redmond, WA, with a Bachelor of Science in game design. John is currently a part of DigiPen's Research and Development branch in Singapore in addition to DigiPen Game Studios. Lot to learn here, not for absolute beginners

This is not new book on learning Unity and learning (more) C#. As Unity has been updated to version 5 this is a welcome book working with the last version of Unity. However it is not a starters book, you should know something already about programming and/or C# to be able to work with it. For example on page 12:

"The System.Collections namespace contains interfaces and classes that define various collections of objects, such as lists, queues, bit arrays, hash tables, and dictionaries."

This should not scare you away. If you have no idea what classes are or lists or queues or arrays etc. you should either get this (basic programming) knowledge elsewhere or accept that you do not completely understand it. As the tutorials on making various games go step by step, you actually do not need to know all these things on page 12. On the other hand, sometimes the explanation is perhaps a bit short (for beginners). e.g.:

"You can think of a class as a kind of blueprint for creating a new component type that can be attached to GameObjects, the objects inside our scenes that start out with just Transform and then have components added to them." (pg.13).

So, the upside is that if you know a bit about programming, the long stories explaining the basic concepts (of objects, classes, arrays, etc) are not there and you get to the solution fast. My advice would be: make sure you understand the basic concepts of programming before you start with this book (such as objects, classes, variables, methods, behaviors, etc.)

Building your own level editor

So the level is quite advanced. A lot of the tutorial examples are about finding your way in Unity, and a bit about scripting. After you have gone trough these tutorials I suppose you are ready for your own games. If you need to understand a particular part of Unity (e.g. how to make a GUI or how to spawn enemies in a FPS) then get this book. So have a look in the table of contents to see if will be of use to you.

Life Changing Book

I received this book in 2007 as a gift. It is, perhaps the best gift I have received in my life. How I wished I had this book in my 20s. My life, which has been good, would have been much better and more rewarding through this book. This isn't a book you read an hour at a time. You read one chapter a day, 2-3 pages. When you finish the book, you start over from the beginning. I am on my 5th trip through the book. The friend who gave me the book began reading it in the 50s, and never stopped until she passed two years ago at 86. She told me that each time that she read it, she found something new. We discussed that and decided that what was new was her view of life and of the world. In your first read there are some pages you may find a little off putting. I did. Even in the second reading. However, don't put it down never to return. I promise you, as you re-read the book, at some point you will find those same pages enlightening. Give it time. Worry will become a thing of the past, acceptance a way of life. This book will change your life.

Could not stop reading!

I go to Adoration during the week, and usually I take something with me to read. One day, I decided to stop in after a particularly stressful day at work. I prayed for a bit, and then looked at a little bookshelf they have with random books. I picked this one because I had always been curious about what it held. I sat there for the remainder eating the pages up! I told myself, "I just have to get one!" The words on the pages felt like the author was just speaking to me while knowing me personally. Definitely a must read and a beautiful companion to deepening your Catholic faith!

Great little prayer book.

Great prayer book. Covers many topics and is arranged with a purpose - the prayer topics seem to flow from one to the next in a way i find helpful. Also well written, short and concise. In some ways reminds me of C.S. Lewis in that sense. It can cover a lot in a few words. I bought a first print and its pretty much identical to the ones being produced today.

Outstanding for a self-taught course in GIS

I just completed a graduate course in GIS and remote sensing, and we used this book as the basic guide to using GIS. Prior to this, I had always relied on other people to "make maps" for me. Now I am not only making my own maps, but also using GIS to perform many different types of analysis for my job. This book was key to that - the course I took didn't really cover much GIS in the class materials - that was focused mostly on remote sensing and researching what others have done with GIS. I've sat through probably a half-dozen GIS "workshops" over the years and never really learned anything. Taking your time with this book, and no one standing over your shoulder and telling you which buttons to click, is really the best way to learn. I liked this book so much I ordered 10 more for my staff, and 9 of them have now completed it, too, and are working on their projects to earn the certificate from me that they have mastered basic ArcGIS use. I've now got a backlog of 15 other employees who want to be in on the next round of training! Very highly recommended!

Perfect. Exactly what I was looking for.

I needed a quick study guide (lesson) on map building in ArcGIS.
This was perfect. It prepared me for a job interview.

Be careful about starting your 6 month license. Be sure to start it
on the CPU you will have continued access to. You can not un-install
and then re-install on another computer.

Great book for getting familiar with ArcGIS 10.1 and as a reference for the features it covers

This book provides a good overall view of ArcGIS with accurate examples, with an exception to chapter 19. The chapter topics are arranged in a logical order and build on previous chapters although the supplied data allows a user to skip chapters if desired. It does not dilute the content by attempting to cover every tool and feature in ArcGIS but can serve as a good reference for the topics it does include.it took me about a month to work through the book and I feel I have a good foundatin from which to continue exploring the software. I will look to ESRI Press for other publications.
